Electric Weekly · Issue 2 · Storage Europe is now the world's second-largest storage market. The next wave is batteries in businesses. Dear Madam/Sir, Demand for energy storage is set to grow by almost 30% in 2026 alone, and this year Europe overtakes the US to become second only to China. That is the finding of a new Wood Mackenzie report, which calls commercial and industrial batteries "a sleeping giant that is waking up" (energypress, 12 Oct). In Greece this wave already has a deadline. The "Storage Systems in Businesses" programme has 209 eligible applications: €8.15 million for 49.3 MWh of batteries paired with self-consumption PV, with 30–50% subsidy. Projects must be completed by 31 October, while final approvals are still pending (liberal.gr, 29 Sep). For installers that means orders, designs and grid connections within a few weeks. At the Electric Summit & Expo in Athens, 27–28 November, storage is one of the four pillars of the exhibition: home and business batteries, inverters and energy management systems, up close. At the conference you will hear what comes next in subsidies and the grid. In brief | Speakers. The first 10 conference speakers have been announced. See the programme | | Grid. The Greek energy ministry has put its bill on flexible grid connections for renewables to public consultation. energypress, 12 Oct |
